There are two good ways to backup in Outlook and Outlook Express. One is for regular backup of Outlook Express 6 .wab. The others are for backup, import and export into different applications,databases or email programs.. I have tutorials to help you out !

 

BACKUP IMPORT and EXPORT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESSES using only OUTLOOK EXPRESS
*This is the easiest and can be used if you are just
doing backup or Import and Export in Outlook Express. Its also easy to check your backup.
(It opens as Outlook Express Address book) .wab

EXPORT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESSES from OUTLOOK EXPRESS
*I used text (.txt) in this backup because it will work in most applications

TROUBLSHOOT PROBLEMS

BACKUP your EMAIL ADDRESSES from OUTLOOK EXPRESS

  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. Click FILE (top left)
  3. Click EXPORT
  4. click Address book

    5. *On the Address Book Export tool page
  5. Click on Tex File (Comma Separated Values)
  6. click on EXPORT

    7. *On the CSV export page
  7. Click BROWSE

    8. In the Save as page
    Go down to the "File Name:" box
  8. type in Your addresses

    9. Below that in "Save As Type:" box
  9. click on the arrow and select Text files(*txt)
  10. click SAVE

    11. *Back to the CRV export page
  11. Click NEXT
  12. Put a Checkmark in the Boxes you want
  13. Click FINISH
  14. click Close
Now you have all your addresses backed up in Outlook Express you can use for backup on a Floppy or Disk or import it to another computer. This is the best method for me (.txt) because its can be used to import almost any program w/o typing it all... almost. I hoped it helped you.

IMPORT Your Backup Addresses into OUTLOOK EXPRESS

    One common problem is trying to Import from a CD ROM
    You MUST first Cut and Paste Backup to your hard drive

  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. click FILE (top left)
  3. click IMPORT...
  4. click Other Address Book

    5. *On the Address Book Import Tool page
  5. click on Tex File (Comma Separated Values)
  6. then click on IMPORT

    7. On the CSV Import page
  7. click BROWSE

    8. *On the Open page
    In the Save as type: box towards the bottom
  8. click on the arrow
  9. click on Text Files(*txt)

    10. In the look in: box towards the top
  10. click on the arrow

    11. and locate the folder where Your Addresses are.
  11. click on Your Address to highlight it
  12. click OPEN

    13. Back to the CSV import page
  13. click NEXT
  14. put checkmarks in the boxes you want
  15. click FINISH

BACKUP EMAIL ADDRESSES from OUTLOOK

  1. Open Outlook

  2. left click File

  3. left click Import export

    4. On the Import and Export Wizard page
  4. left click on Export to a file
  5. left click Next

    6. On the export to a file page
  6. left click TAB separated files(Windows) its the last selection
  7. left click Next

  8. left click Contacts
  9. left click Next
  10. left click Browse
  11. locate destination folder
    ( probably My documents?)
  12. Right click Empty space in folder
  13. left click New
  14. left click Text document
  15. The next move is to put your curser on top of new text document.txt
    Left click to highlight new document.txt
  16. right click and select Rename
  17. Name your File Your addresses.txt ? (You name it)
  18. left click OK
  19. left click next
  20. left click Finish

IMPORT ADDRESSES into OUTLOOK

Import your file.txt

    One common problem is trying to Import from a CD ROM

  2. left click File
  3. left click Import and export

  8. left click Browse
  9. (locate your file.txt)

  11. (Default)Allow duplicates to be created
  12. left click Next
  13. left click Contacts
  14. left click Next
  15. left click Finish

Export Yahoo Address book

  1. Open Yahoo Address Book

    2. Find the Import/Export link towards the top on the right
  2. click on Import/Export

    3. On the Import and Export page
    Scroll down to the Export section
    On the line
    Microsoft Outlook:
  3. click on Microsoft Outlook

    4. Note: You can use your Addresses.txt
    from Outlook Express or Outlook
    on the;
    File Download page
  4. Click on Save

    5. On the
    save as page:
  5. Locate the folder you want
    6. to save it in
    On the
    save as: line
  6. Rename it Your addresses

    7. On the
    File type: line
  7. click on the arrow
  8. click on all files
  9. click on Save

Import Address book into Yahoo

  1. Open yahoo Address Book

    2. Find the Import/Export link towards the top on the right
  2. click on Import/Export

    3. On the
    Import and Export     page
    Note: Import is at the top of page
    On the
    Choose a program to import contacts from:     line
  3. click on the arrow
  4. click on Microsoft Outlook(.csvfile)

    5. Note: You can use your Addresses.txt
    from Outlook Express or Outlook
    On the
    Specify the file to import    : line
  5. click browse
  6. Find your addresses.txt
  7. Double click your addresses.txt
    8. (two quick left clicks)
    The location address to your addresses.txt
    should be in the box to the left of the browse button on the Yahoo Import and Export page
    In the
    Press Import Now to Import the file:     line
  8. click on the Import button

TROUBLESHOOT PROBLEMS

If you have Different versions of Outlook express (Like 5 and 6)
and are having problems. Either Update both versions to outlook Express 6 or
go to go to understanding Comma Delimited to make adjustments.

To Check your version of Email

  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. Click on help
  3. Click on About Outlook... Express
  4. To Update for free go to Microsoft Update Click here
